What is Taiko? Things to know about the next generation ZK-Rollups project

What is Taiko?

Taiko is a completely decentralized ZK-Rollups , similar to Layer 2 solutions, the project is able to scale Ethereum both technically and non-technically, by supporting all code. ZK-EVM in decentralized, permissionless and secure Layer 2 architecture.Taiko aims to become a Class 1 ZK-EVM, prioritizing EVM/Ethereum compatibility with better speed thanks to using ZK technology.

Taiko's Alpha 1 testnet creates a playground for all developers to deploy smart contracts. As Taiko aims to be a Class 1 ZK-EVM, developers can use all the familiar Ethereum/solidity tools.

Taiko has committed to building the project with open source code, and the project's GitHub reflects this. In that direction, this first public test network is open to all test users. Accordingly, all the developers can deploy the contract, all the test users, the participants can also be ready to run the L2 node and propose blocks.

Main technical components of Taiko

ZK-EVM

ZK-EVM proves the correctness of EVM calculations on Rollups by valid proofs. Taiko can run existing Ethereum smart contract code without any changes. Developers can migrate their existing Ethereum smart contracts and full Dapps to Taiko easily. Taiko implements ZK-EVM which supports any EVM opcode, generating a valid proof of ZK-EVM circuit. Besides the perfect compatibility with smart contracts and Dapps on Ethereum, this also means that all Ethereum and solidity tools work seamlessly with Taiko, with no need to interrupt the workflow. developers' work.

In addition to the benefits of EVM compatibility, Taiko aims to be compatible with Ethereum, allowing it to use existing Ethereum infrastructure, such as execution clients, that can be easily reused as a node. Taiko.

In the future, if there are Ethereum protocol updates , Taiko will implement them in zkEVM to stay in sync with the Ethereum network. On the other hand, if Taiko generates exciting new directions from their own R&D department, the project will also work on implementing them on Ethereum.

Taiko L2 Rollup Node

Taiko nodes get transaction data from Ethereum and execute transactions on L2, eventually progressing the state according to transaction executions. Therefore, these nodes are responsible for managing the total chain. Currently, Taiko's node is an Ethereum Geth fork.

Taiko Protocol

Taiko Protocol defines and enforces summation rules and identifies potential participants. The design of the protocol is geared towards maintaining the core principles of security, decentralization, and permissionlessness.

Smart contracts deployed on Ethereum L1 serve as the data delivery mechanism and verifier of ZK-SNARK proofs. The smart contract deployed on Taiko L2 will perform several important protocol functions.

Taiko's development team

Daniel Wang – Co-Founder of Taiko

Daniel Wang holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Science and Technology of China and a Master's degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University. Not stopping there, Daniel also holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Daniel held the position of Head of Software Engineering and Technology at Boston Scientific for 3 years and at Google for 4 years.

After that period of time, Daniel started to establish technology companies such as Yunrang (Beijing) Information Techonoloy Ltd, ZhongAn Insurance and Loopring. After more than 4 years with Loopring, Daniel started building Taiko from March 2022.

Terence Lam – Co-Founder of Taiko

Terence holds a Bachelor of Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a degree in Marketing Management from Macquarie Business School. In addition, Terence studied at Tsinghua and Harvard University. Terence was an Engineer at Nortel Networks and spent more than 5 years at Motorola China. After that, Terence held senior positions at many companies such as ID Innovation Limited, Asia Mobilenet Ltd, Motorola, Racefit International Company Limited, Dora Network, Vite Labs Limited, Ascent Vision International Limited…

In 2018, Terence started to enter the crypto market with the product Up Blockchain – a DEX platform. Later, Terence co-developed Loopring with Daniel Wang and currently Terence is developing Taiko.

Ending

Above is some basic information about the Taiko project. Currently, Taiko has just launched and there is still a lot of information that has not been announced such as investors, Tokenomics… In December 2022, Taiko project launched Taiko's Alpha 1 testnet event to receive POAP NFTs and receive get a lot of attention from investors. In the future, the project will launch even more attractive events. If you are interested in the Taiko project, you can follow more social networking sites such as:
